Helmut Leopold

Helmut Leopold has more than 30 years of management experience in the IT and communication technology market. Currently he is with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology where he heads the Center for Digital Safety & Security. In this role he brings strong leadership and digitalization knowledge to the team and is responsible for the digital research programme covering areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and cyber security.

As acting CTO he was a key driver for the digitalisation transformation of Telekom Austria and thus for the introduction of broadband Internet and interactive television in Austria and is today recognised as an innovation and digitalisation expert with international innovation awards and state prices. He was Chairmen of the Broadband Services Forum (BSF), in San Francisco, USA, is initiator and key organizer of the International Digital Security Forum (IDSF), is leading several national initiatives and expert groups and is currently acting as chair of the Gaia-X Hub Austria. Mr. Leopold holds a holds a masters’ degree in computer science from the Vienna University of Technology and made his PhD in computer science at the University of Lancaster, UK.
